Sunday Craving and Rant

It's 4:37pm over here in the States, while back home its barely 8am. Wanted to ring up Mom or Gran to tell them I'm drinking their usual coffee and how I forgot the smell of it that reminded me of home, my room, and the pisang goreng (banana fritters in Malay) i never failed to have (at least one) every single day during teatime. Silently kicked myself for always having the urge to call at the wrong time. eeeesh.

As August 31 approaches, patriotism and Princess D's death are the two most discussed issues back home, I suppose. Not that people needed reminding. Last night, TV was showing the movie "The Murder of Princess Diana", of which I only watched the last 40 minutes of it. It's repeating tonight at 6pm, so if you haven't watched it, you should. It's based on the speculation that the accident that Dodi and Diana was in wasn't an accident at all, but rather an intended planned crash. Don't know much of the background info on this, but it sure is a plausible conspiracy, no? After all, since the beginning of time, people has had ways to cover up murders by making it seem like an innocent accident. They'd always manage to find scapegoats or people to do the dirty job, clean up the mess and pretend as if nothing has ever happened. Especially when those with power are involved. Such is the world we're living in. F***ed up, gruesome, brutal, foul, sickening, demented. Wonder what God thinks about all this. If I'd had the chance to meet Him, this would be one of the many questions I'd ask Him - the injustice and cruelty in this world and how he could've allowed it.

Patriotism, which is almost tagged along with racism, is such a rotten topic that I have no strength whatsoever to debate on. The whole Namewee's 'Negarakuku' issue was really being blown out of proportion if you ask me. It's not right of him to parody our national song. Yeah so you make your point by arresting him - which IMHO, was really over-reacting. Give him a stern warning and let him know it's inappropriate to disrespect the national song and then LET GO of that matter, for Christ's sake! Seriously! Is there such a need to blow it up so much and incriminating him for creating havoc in our country or unrest amongst the people?! Besides, it's not as if what he said wasn't true - about bribery, the inefficiency of civil workers, and the needless booming prayers in the wee hours, the special rights of a certain race. Everyone knows it's as true as it can be -even foreigners who pay attention to a bit of international news. Why the over-reaction??! See, I dunno if it's just Malaysians, or its a common trait, but I know for a fact that most Malaysians like to cover all the inadequacies up, sweep 'em under the table and use a bright beautiful table cloth to cover up and pretend the world is such a beautiful place to live in. Puh-leeeeeze. Who are they trying to fool?

Tell the whole world that oh Malaysia's such and such, a melting pot of so many races and culture and yet able to live harmoniously. Not that it's entirely untrue, I think we have to give credit to predecessors who fought to create the Malaysia we live in today. But why deny our weaknesses, our shortcomings? Why embellish it with all the lies? And it isn't just the people up there... a lot of people chose to ignore them or carefully avoid those so-called sensitive issues for one reasons or another. Sighhhh. Didn't intend to write about this initially; dunno how I got into it. Oh ya, our Independence Day on the 31st of August. How do they expect us to be united and love our country when we're not being loved fairly?! Some mind they've got there. They think by making touching video clips on account of Merdeka Day would bring us together. What farce!

But anyway. I shouldn't complain too much. Just another rant.. I want my pisang goreng... :( Oh, and, happy 50th anniversary to Malaysia by the way. Merdeka merdeka merdeka. -_-
