this morning whilst browsing through the news, i see crazy riots in Kenya, all the ethnic conflicts, unrests and violence, destroying each other. in iraq US troops continue to get killed; the tiny possibility that a US spy satellite will crash into the earth; the absurd legalization of vending machines for marijuana distribution in the state of California!
I mean, holy schmoly! i know a lot of sick people are in pain and marijuana is needed for the pain relief, but this is not the way to "make things easier" for them!! are you kidding me, vending machines for drugs? for all the security precautions such as taking photos, fingerprints, and ID cards etc. that are said to be taken, it's still plain sense-less to have vending machines for this purpose. if all of that safety precautions are done to prevent drug abuse, then what's the difference from letting the pharmacies sell them? but of course, we know better. beneath the obvious, there were more deals between certain parties that made all these possible. i personally think this is preposterous, but not unbelievable. so what's next? vending machines for sexual pleasures? "Insert coins to have 7 minutes of sexual and sensual pleasure, with visual and audio effects! Complete with more than 1,000 celebrities choices!" Cheap and easy, eh? and heck, this can even eradicate child sex labor problems and the ethical debate on prostitution. the only people who're possibly gonna be out of job are the prostitutes and the pimps (but you and i know that's not gonna happen!!). oh and also, maybe the celebs would be claiming for their 'share' of contribution in the business.
then there was this stupid brainless bus driver sms-ing while driving not to mention it was raining heavily, and ended up crashing, causing deaths of innocent people. this girl Lee Nian Ning, a pretty girl who had everything and was on her way achieving her dreams to be a doctor, was snatched away the one thing that would make all of her dreams possible - her life. it's like the chipsmore ad - "now you see, now you don't". one moment she's laughing, the next moment she's gone. forever. i cant fathom what her family has to go through. :'(
and so, my condolence goes out to her family, her friends, her loved ones. to say that i understand how her family feels to lose a girl like her would be an understatement, because i don't think anyone could know exactly how it's like to lose an immediate family until you really do (lose one). i can only imagine the pain, the deepest cut that they have to go through. but hang in there, because there are a lot of us standing with you. and hopefully something is done to make sure the bus driver and bus company get the appropriate consequences. rest in peace, nian ning.
