On our way there, there were small shop lots along the road, some high end expensive design shit. And the owner of one of them that we walked into told us that Carrie from SATC stayed just across the street! Hah, whaddaya know! The things that you can find out just by talking to the locals. :D So glad we went in with the cupcakes (cuz that's how he started talking to us). Oh for you info, I didn't finish my cupcakes. Brought them back for Chean's friend Sureen. The picture above, was where Carrie Bradshaw lived. :)
So here we are... in the middle of Chinatown, trying to figure out which direction to go in order to get to Jaya the Msian Restaurant @ Baxter St. Can't believe we're looking for food, right after we just ate those diabetic-causing cupcakes....
The long LONG walk was worth it. We shared asam laksa, bubur chacha and otak otak. The asam laksa wasn't the authentic Penang kind, but still was relatively good. A tad too spicy if you ask me. But cuz I love spicy food, I don't mind at all. :)
To those who don't know, bubur cha cha, is a kind of sweet coconut milk dessert with sweet potatoes, taro and sago pearls in it, boiled with screwpine leaves i think. And the ones they have there was real good. And I mean it. It's almost comparable to those in Msia! Not too sweet, served hot (unlike those in 'Penang' Restaurant, who served it in martini plastic cup!! i mean, hello??? who the hell serves it that way?!), just nice.
Otak-otak wasn't that great. Tasted more like fishcake. But we had fun talking to the peeps working there, all in all, a fun experience. :) not just referring to gastronomical experience, ehem, but in general. And it's fun to see how the couple at the next table fumbling through the menu, having trouble putting orders cuz there's just too many choices I bet they didn't know what's really special and what's not. So tempted to go over and introduce them some good stuff, but that would make them think I'm crazy or smthg...
