Post-trauma of TV series?

For a few seconds, you go into a trance, or are emotionally shocked after an appalling or traumatizing episode of some TV show. And you wonder, how can we get so worked up about something that we know for a fact aint real?

I dont know bout you, but I personally like getting emotional in front of the screen. It makes me think. Makes me wonder, if it were me in those situations, what would I do? And if I couldn't figure out those problems, I can always turn my back away and forget all about it. The beauty of these dramatic scenes is you don't actually have to experience them to feel the sorrows and all other emotions. All you have to do is sit in front of the idiot box and concentrate on the show! And the emotions you feel is just as real, perhaps even better or worse due to the audio effects that plays a vital role in enhancing every emotion.

Sure, sometimes the stuff they show in TV can be surreal, unrealistic or even too good to be true. But there are certain facts in them too I think. And it preps us for the real thing, if you'd spend some time to mull over it.

So! My question of the day to think about is this : If you knew this was your last day on earth, what would you do? (quoted from Grey's Anatomy S. 2 Episode 17) If you dont mind sharing it with me, do tell me. :) I on the other hand, am still pondering...

i believe in rebirth after life and if i were in the position of having a day left to live(due to illness), i would

1) donate all my belongings or write a will as to how my belongings should be distributed

2) tell my relatives/ppl whom i care that there's no need to worry about me, as all things that come into one would dissolve eventually, and have to thank them wholeheartedly for the precious company during this lifetime

3) sit down, and try to stay calm and alert, be prepared for the last moment, realise that death is a process where every sentient beings has to gone through, is a very natural process, just like birth.

4) Usually when we realised out of the blue they have one year/month left to live, it seems very hard for us to accept this pressing fact. One might wanna start early to prepare for this moment... ;) It's kinda over-strecthed but hey, really no harm to think over it.

5) ;) Be prepared to reap what i have sown, try to let go my attachments(i.e. parents, wife, kids, houses, cars, career), and focus on my inner self.

6) Observe that my inner light is fading and there is a need for my conscious to leave this body.

7) Pray that my rebirth next life would be guided again with the truth and better progress towards enlightenment can be made.

I like to ask a question, if the reincarnation is not true, do you know if you die today, are you going to heaven or to hell?

Hey Rocky,
Thanks for your insights. I like what you wrote. btw... om mani pedme hung - what exactly issit? some buddhist chant?
And ohh... my Da Gu's question - if reincarnation aint true, do you know if you're gonna go to heaven or hell when you die? I believe you have some thoughts on this too?

Da Gu,
if you ask me, I really wouldnt know..since I'm still here.

Feeling embarrased now as I was gonna say something stupid before entering here and then I read what Rocky would do...

I used to be really skeptical when ppl raised the topic of reincarnation. So once I spent a few days looking for answers online. It seems that it's easy to recall what your previous lives are (how you lived, how u died and all) if you're not so self-aware (or so I read).

So sometimes kids younger than 2 years old can tap into the memory of past lives and tell you how they died, because they're not contaminated yet. Adults can do the same but a lot harder, traditional way I read of is to meditate (let go of attachments like what Rocky mentioned), OR, nowadays in western countries they can actually hpnotize one so that the person can recall their past lives.(by breaking through the mental barriers and beliefs and such I believe)

And once you do, many things will be explained.
Why you hate someone the first time you see him..
Why the backache when the doctor says it's in perfect shape..

It's amazing that the memories of all your past lives are actually stored inside you, all the wisdom we ever needed is inside us. But most of us will never find the key.

I'm more of facing the question, do I dare to see my past lives ?

p/s : This is just what I read from different sources plus my thoughts. So pls correct me or share with me ur thoughts if you agree/disagree. =)

All these thoughts would arise naturally, both dagu and nickie, and of course upstairs warn3r would have a thought about those weirdx2 questions.. lol ;) But quite often our thoughts are fickle, just like the tip of a candle lit fire, (my) thoughts would (like now) arise and fade like the wave on the beach. Erm.. what i want to say is tht instead of wandering in our (man) normal lives searching for money and woman and career, why not try focusing on our inner self, and see what we really need.

We can't force someone into believing something quite detached some our normal lives. It can be arguably okay to give them(these issues) benefits of the doubt and open up more possibilities.

Yes nickie Om Mani Pedme Hung is a six syllabe mantra chanted across the globe ;0

Have to say sorry for posting these serious comments. ;)

After all the serious comments posted, I feel I don't belong here, I scare I would say something wrong to spoil the atmosphere where serious discussion is being held... =)

But good say Rocky! And what Warn3r said was instead something very interesting...

Warner,
The stuff you said bout recalling our past-live memories.. i think it could be true. But then again, we'd never know. I mean, we'd never find out, would we? We humans can only believe smthg when we want to. And say, for eg., if we happened to hear from some spritual guru bout stuff in our past lives tht we dont like, we can always be skeptical bout it, n stop believing.

So, warner, when u say "question is, do i dare face my past life?", i think the more appropriate question is, do u want to? Or, maybe, would u believe blindly on what u're gonna find out regardless if its pleasant or not? And if not, why do u even care to find out? ;)
And last but not least - past lives, it's fascinating, full of the unknowns, allows us lots of room to imagine how we were like.
but...does it all matter?

Rocky,

you're absolutely right. all these questions would arise naturally, sooner or later. And yeah, we should all give these issues the benefit of doubts.
Hmmm... inner self eh? =) seems to me u've been reading lots of spiritual stuff...! ;)and quite a believer too! nice!

and ah goo,
dont worry bout the 'serious' comments n u can say whatever u want! besides we can all use some good laughs..! =P so pls feel to say anythg u like!

Dear,
I'm not talking about spiritual guru's here, I'm talking about Certified Hypnotherapist in the States.

And in that case, they help you to venture through your past lives Yourself. They only guide you, they're not doing it for you.
(unlike the buddhists, these western hynotizes are usually carried out to heal sickness/mental/emotion problems which the normal ways fail to treat.)
(eg. there're cases where ppl recalled themselves being stabbed at the back, and this life they always freak out when they find someone behind them. etc..)

So yes, it's possible to see it for yourself. But I've never tried it out myself yet, so the part you said that we only believe what we wanna believe, is partially true. I believe reincarnation because 三世因果 explained lots of shits which I thought was unfair in life. But I accepted it not because I want to, but the way it explained how 缘分 and 因果 work upon us is just..irresistable.

I'm still a very new learner in this area who has only explored it recently.

Regarding your last question, yes my question remains to be "Do I dare to see my past lives?"
Because seeing them will more or less let you know what your role in this life is. Having said that, it means

you know why a particular person appears in this life( either as ur dad, mum, friend, gf, enemy and such. And you can anticipate almost exactly what's gonna happen between u 2)

you know how you're most likely gonna end up this life

and such..

However I must repeat, I have limited language skills and rooms here to explain fully what I know, and what I know is not fully accurate and doesn't even form 0.1% of the context of 三世因果.
So I say, research and do some studies urself if you're interested, or you can simply disregard what I said. =)

Warner,

hmm. right. the hypnosist u're talking about.. im sure there's certain truth n validation of what they're doing.. but, it still boils down to one thg - we'd never know. cuz our human mind is so mysterious, so complicated, they can create any images at all, even bout past lives. In fact, our brain is perhaps the most complicated thg tht ever existed.

i have to agree on what u said though - tht Fate and Reason explains a lot bout us. And the thgs tht r happening to us.. And it truly is IRRESISTABLE. Hence i believe in 'san shi yin guo' too. Somehow through believing it, it makes me accept unpleasant thgs tht happened to me more easily.

haha.. will heed ur advice n read more on it... when i have time. =)
