Time-Out

ok time-out. even basketball matches and soccer matches have time-out; i reckon i'm entitled to a few minutes of study break to ramble a little on my blog too. :) so here are mini-updates, in no order at all:

1. last week there was a major infestation of fruit flies (otherwise known as vinegar flies, or Drosophila melanogaster) in my apartment, because roommate #2 threw meat stuff in the trash and never bothered to take out the overflowing trash. i'm trying to whine as little as possible, so to cut the long story short, i felt the need to vindicate myself: it's not me who's anal about cleanliness; it's just intolerable to be living in this condition, especially when my "room" is the living room, right next to the kitchen. the least they can do is clean after themselves, no? thank goodness roommate #1 is away, or else it'd be twice the mess. anyway, back to the infestation. it got to a point where i couldn't ignore them anymore - they were all over me, on my laptop, in the fridge. IN the fridge!!! goodness gracious, for the few hours i felt like i was in Africa. thank god for wiki's HowTo, i found a way to trap them: fill a bowl of vinegar and sugar syrup, cover it with plastic wrap and poke holes on it. so i left it overnight and found 24 of them in that bowl. think that's a lot? wait till you hear the last count, which was after 2 days of leaving the bowl out: 80!!! 80 freakin' fruit flies living in my pad!! i'm thankful i got rid of the most of them, but there are still a few of them flying around. praying hard that they won't breed so fast like the last time.

2. at work there's some cleaning issues too. why, why do people don't understand that it's only common courtesy to clean after themselves? sigh. i have to keep reminding myself the need to learn to live and deal with difficult people, people unlike myself. *deep breath* ok i'm good now.

3. Teoh Beng Hock's death is a tragedy. but what's more heartbreaking is that, his unborn child will never get to know him. my heart goes out to his fiancee, and his family. i would die if my fiance were to be found dead a day before the official exchange of vow. on the other hand, the politicians should really not use his death as a political leverage, it's just uncalled for. let the deceased go away peacefully will ya?! sigh.

4. the eye-twitch is back to haunt me. not fun! and i'm trying out tofu and broccolli diet. well, not yet, but soon... as soon as i go grocery-shopping the next time. studying is going fine... just praying hard that i'd ace the exam this time. or else... or else nothing. i'll figure that out later.

5. a few of my addictions lately: oatmeal with cookies (must have cookies!!), tofu-and-broccolli, indian food, hindi songs, twitter, plurk, KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, TheWorld.org and tweets from a particular guy whom i shall refer to as Stranger (more updates on that soon)!

6. i'm increasingly entertaining the idea of having a bionic eye, and become an eyeborg - inspirations from a one-eyed Canadian filmmaker who's going to have his artificial eye installed with a mini-camera, so that he could film the world the way he sees it. how cool is that!!! he wanted to make documentary films with that camera-eye, supposedly in a discreet manner. but if you ask me, it's hard to be discreet when the whole world knows about it. i mean, what are the chances that people allow an 'eyeborg' to roam around their private land if they have something to hide?! doesn't quite make sense to me. anyway, for pure amusement, do check out their Eyeborg Project. if nothing else, i hope it'd lighten up your day. it's fun to know technology is advancing at such rampant pace. but seriously, i'd really really like to have a bionic eye - well, minus the fact that you have to take out a real eye in place of the bionic eye. :))))

ok back to studies. till the next study break! :)

I'm 99% almost sure that "not cleaning up after yourself syndrome" is a genetically dominant defect in the US society.

To date I have found no one born in the US to clean up after themselves. Pathetic!

Brandon,
Haha although I can't attest to that, I've heard quite a number of stories (from you guys), but so far no first-hand experience. okay, no i take it back!!! there IS! the lab guy!!! omg that's probably the worst basketcase i've seen.

However, the subjects of interest in this post aren't born in US. Rather, they're from our ancestors' motherland. :(
