Noteworthy Reads 2/19/10

As usual, my browser has ten thousands tabs opened - stuff i wanna read but will have to wait. here are a few:
  1. Bill Gate's talk on TED conference: on energy and zero carbon emission. this matter is critical to our future generation but i feel it's not gaining enough public attention.
  2. Also another TED talk by Mae Jemison: on arts, science and education. i haven't watched this video, but reading what Garr Reynolds have to say about it makes me wanna watch it.
  3. If you're into photography, you probably have already come across these two websites: (1) Stuck in Customs; and (2) Light Stalking (courtesy of Brandon for sharing). Great resources to start learning, or just to enjoy some really good pictures.
That's all for now. No health care stuff this week. But there's going to be a conference meeting with the President on the Feb 25, so hopefully they will come to a conclusion and pass the friggin' bill.

it's a conference where ppl from 3 diff worlds (namely TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design) come together and share ideas that are worth spreading. go to TED.com and check it out! you can read more on their 'about TED' site, or watch videos. there are a lot of very cool videos worth watching; very inspiring and motivating. :)

Trey Ratcliff of Stuck in Customs gave a Authors@Google talk earlier this month about his recently released book.

Check out The Big Picture, a thrice weekly collection of 20-40 pics on a topic usually related to current events. If you haven't seen/heard of it before, for shame! If you need a starting point, check out the best of 2008.

Also, Shorpy. High resolution historical (in the sense of old, not important) pictures from the Library of Congress collection. Mostly pics from the east coast. I usually let the pictures sit for a week or so to wait for the discussion (since that too is interesting in its own right). Drug stores, soda fountains, and home photos are endlessly interesting to me. (If I haven't mentioned the term "ephemera" to you yet, then...I guess I just did. I'm fascinated by it.)
