now i know why i had such a hard time reflecting on 2009, and why the entire year flew by in what seemed like a split second. it's the lack of events to remember time by. or rather, it's the lack of accomplished goals. all i remember was setting my new year's resolution in january 2009, and the next thing i know it's december; because in those twelve months, there ain't much accomplishments to remember those months by. and so it's really just about our perception of time - and we all perceive time according to events that happened in our lives.
no one really knows how our brain tracks time. i doubt there's any specialized cells in our body to count off intervals of time, as some theory suggests. if anything i think it's probably our own internal clock we choose to adhere to that gives us a sense of "time". 5 seconds for the guy on stage who forgot his speech might feel like an eternity to him, yet the same 5 seconds for the guy who's racing to the finish line probably lasted shorter than he had hoped.
read an article that referred to philosopher Martin Heidegger who once said, "time persists merely as a consequence of the events taking place in it." how so very true. his sentence pretty much summarized what i was saying in the last two paragraphs. :D and so, this year, i'll see to it that it won't just go by without significant changes. 2010 eh? it's a year to get things done. :) right. off to class i go! toodles.
