New York Part 7

Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. Really nice building. Didn't get to go in though, was in a rush so we just walked pass it. Chean said she's gonna live in their penthouse one day. I'm waiting, Chean!!! Invite me over!!!Monday, March 26, 2007
New York Part 5
Ahhh so lemme continue my story. At that bread and pastry coffeeshop, in the midst of expressing our disappointment over the cupcakes, this lady (in the picture) sat next to our table. Somehow we started talking, she said she's originally from Trinidad and then migrated to Canada then now she's here. Her son's my age, and when we told her we're from Malaysia, she exclaimed "Really?? My son's girlfriend is from Malaysia too!" Went on to tell us the girl's father is a diplomat and that the son's gonna ask her to marry him. Anyway, that's besides the point. She told us bout this Malaysian Restaurant called Jaya, and that the food there is real good, the roti she said. We got all excited and asked her for the address! So that's our next stop! :)
On our way there, there were small shop lots along the road, some high end expensive design shit. And the owner of one of them that we walked into told us that Carrie from SATC stayed just across the street! Hah, whaddaya know! The things that you can find out just by talking to the locals. :D So glad we went in with the cupcakes (cuz that's how he started talking to us). Oh for you info, I didn't finish my cupcakes. Brought them back for Chean's friend Sureen. The picture above, was where Carrie Bradshaw lived. :)
The long LONG walk was worth it. We shared asam laksa, bubur chacha and otak otak. The asam laksa wasn't the authentic Penang kind, but still was relatively good. A tad too spicy if you ask me. But cuz I love spicy food, I don't mind at all. :)
Otak-otak wasn't that great. Tasted more like fishcake. But we had fun talking to the peeps working there, all in all, a fun experience. :) not just referring to gastronomical experience, ehem, but in general. And it's fun to see how the couple at the next table fumbling through the menu, having trouble putting orders cuz there's just too many choices I bet they didn't know what's really special and what's not. So tempted to go over and introduce them some good stuff, but that would make them think I'm crazy or smthg...Sunday, March 25, 2007
New York Part 4
So you're probably wondering if it's as good as everyone says. Sadly, I'll have to say - no. They're over-rated. Sorry Roy, to shatter your expectations and whatnot bout Magnolia Bakery. But seriously, the cupcakes sucked. Only the icing sugar looked extremely pretty, and it sent me right to cloud nine due to the endorphins or smthg (cant recall)... Haha but because of that sugar high, I wasn't too upset bout the disappointment. The sugar did the trick I guess! Teehee. :PNew York Part 3
I'm not a pro photographer, so this is my meager attempt of taking a picture of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Couldn't take the whole thing, but this was the best I could do. It was really windy at that time and I refused to remove my gloves just to take a picture. So yeah, this shot sucked... but at that time I couldn't really be bothered. :/
So guess what's this?! Doesn't it remind you of the movie 'the haunted'? Think it's about a group of people going to this haunted house, and there are ghosts trapped inside the wall and stuff. Can't really recall... But anyway, no this ain't anything of that sort. It's a fountain sculpture thingy I saw in the Met Museum.
That's me and my friend Ker Lih who's working in NY. Only got to meet him up for a short while cuz he had to go elsewhere to work. Thanks for the lunch, my friend. Was nice seeing an old friend in a foreign land far far away from home. :) (To KerLih: Oh btw, did you know that that subway we took didn't stop at canal st. and went all the way to the last stop City Hall..?! I had to take another one back to the Grand Central station, where you got off! Funny!)New York Part 2
I was a good girl that night though, didn't drink. :) So we took crazy pics like this. ;) Diane and Chean advertising for Sony cyber-whatever-the-model-is camera. They were so awed at the fact that both of them have the exact same cam. But I think it's partly the I-can't-believe-I'm-in-New-York-high that got them so hyped up.. hehe.
This lady miming some stuff. So very cute. And I just love the backdrop. Chean thought the subway stations were a bit creepy and dodgy. I thought otherwise. I mean yes there is a tinge of those feelings, but I like the old-ness of it, I dunno why... maybe it feels like it can bring you to the past, as if there is a connection between now and then. Different times different people yet both shared a common transportation. Well it wasn't so long ago, and it's not that old. But still. It's still fun to think this way.
And this is a collage of Aaron (Jess' UN team partner), Jess, moi and Chean on Central Park and subway.
I didn't take a lot of pictures in this whole trip. But of the few I've taken, I reckon this one and the one below were my best shots. :) Cuz I didn't only captured the snow that I go crazy about, but also them ladies having one of the best moments of their lives, their carefree spirits laughing away. :) Charming. And always so heartwarming. ;)
Their smiles lit up my day, warm me from within. Suddenly I don't feel so cold anymore. :)
